(User) Permissions

A user can have various permissions to access work items in Summit Proposals (SP) and/or Summit Agreements (SA).

A user can gain access to a work item in either system by being added directly or indirectly to that work item. A user can be added directly to a work item by being a PI, Co-PI, or Team member and added indirectly by being a support staff or support staff lead on an organization that is on the work item for SP or agreement staff with SA.

Principal Investigator (PI)

The one person designated to be responsible for the scientific or technical direction of the project and is accountable for the proper conduct of the project. See the OSP website for further information on who may serve as a PI.

Co-Investigator (Co-PI)

Person(s) sharing responsibility for the technical direction of the project, but not sharing in the ultimate accountability. Co-PI Department and College approvals are required for proposal processing.

Team Member

A person assisting in the proposal/agreement preparation who is not Support Staff. This may include Key Personnel (who are not Co-PIs), Graduate students, or other technical staff. Team members are not allowed to have any credit in the proposal or in the awarded project.

Support Staff

Grant Administrators, Business Managers or other department, college or institute staff assisting in the development of this proposal. Users must be listed in Summit as Support Staff to be automatically given access based on the Submitting Organization or Credit Organizations. Support Staff access is based upon the access of the users listed in the Proposal Team with which they are associated.

Proposals on which the person is listed as "Support Staff" will appear only in the person's "All Open" proposals. Proposals may have multiple persons designated as Support Staff.

Support Staff Lead

Proposals on which Support Staff are listed as Lead will appear in the person's "My Open" proposals. Proposals may have multiple persons designated as Support Staff Lead. Users with this level of permissions will have notifications sent to them by default.

Agreements Support Staff

Users with this role will have access to the agreement in which the organization appears as the Responsible Org or Home/Credit Org of a named person on the agreement.

Approver

One or more users appointed by an organization's department head or business manager to approve a proposal for that organization.

Approver Delegate

Normally the backup to the approver(s), but in the system it acts the same as an approver. They will receive all the same notifiactions, so any process in place is more determined by how that organization wants to handle approvals.
